Estelle Sloan Photography Tribute
"She Lived the American Dream"
Not photographs that I've taken but a collection of vintage color slides that I purchased in New York City and restored digitally. When I acquired the color slides I had no idea whom they belonged to. It wasn't until I viewed them, read her handwritten captions and did some Google research did I realize she was an actress and exceptional dancer as well as a wonderful person and good photographer.
This was in October of 2013. I found her on YouTube with her phenomenal tap dance routine from the 1946 movie"Night and Day". I was able to get her phone number as she was still alive having moved from her apartment in NYC to assisted living in South Jersey. I called her shortly after acquiring the slides to let her know that I would be restoring them and to ask permission to put them online. Sadly she didn't remember anything about the photos.
So this past year I worked on these images on and off and just found out that she had passed away on Nov 25 2013.
From these photos and reading comments on YouTube and her obituary memorial website I was able to get a good feel of her life. She was very talented, loved to travel and had many interests. Please read the captions, in most cases it was what she had written on the slides. Feel free to contact me to add some insights or questions.
Enjoy the photos, RIP Estelle Sloan.
